Simrad released new software v.2.3.176

Simrad Yachting is pleased to announce new software for the NSX® and NSS®4 series of multi-function displays with many new features, fixes, and improvements. The new software is initially available for download or from local support centers. Later it will also be available by over-the-air update, when a display is connected to the internet.

Chart App

Overlays, layers, and navigation quick access buttons

  • With new quick access buttons on the chart page, it is now easier to enable or disable layers, features, and to control Navigation mode.

Anchor

  • Anchoring tool is now available in Chart Overlays, making it easier to locate, set, and monitor your anchor position directly from the chart.

Chart: FishCast® powered by ROFFS®

  • FishCast® is a subscription-based fishing intelligence tool that merges Fathom Science’s ® advanced forecasting with 30+ years of ROFFS® data to pinpoint the best offshore fishing locations and display them in an easy-to-read heatmap that is downloaded to the display and accessed as a new data layer on the chart app.
  • Real-Time Data Layers:
    1. Optimal Catch Locations
    2. Fishing Hotspots
    3. Sea Surface Temperature
    4. Ocean Color
  • (Initially for the U.S. East Coast, the Gulf of America (Mexico), the Bahamas, and parts of the northern Caribbean)
  • FishCast® is tailored for serious offshore anglers seeking precise, actionable insights to improve their fishing success.

AIS target list

  • Users can now see a full list of AIS targets. Search and filter targets in the list, then display a vessel’s full details.

Tracks App

Automatic Tracking

  • The system starts recording automatically when the vessel reaches >3.0 knots, so users don’t need to remember to start a log manually.

Logbook Integration

  • Easily save trips to a logbook for future reference, useful for planning, reviewing past journeys, or maintaining records for regulatory or personal use.

Reset

  • One-touch Save & Reset functionality makes it easy to start fresh for each trip while keeping a history of previous voyages.

Echo App

Color Erase

  • Allows the user to remove unwanted colors from the echo sounder. The Color Erase is located under Menu > Advanced mode.

StructureScan® 3D compatibility

  • An Issue has been resolved where StructureScan3D was not recognized by a NSX or NSS 4 resulting in no Side or down scan images.
  • Alongside this MFD update, a new version of software for the SS3D module is required.
  • Update the MFD first Copy the SS3D update file to a blank Micro SD card and insert into the MFD. Goto Settings>General > Software updates to run the installer.

Engines

Mercury® features

The Mercury Control Bar now has an engine data view

  • Currently, engine data such as RPM, trim, etc, must be viewed from the full-page Mercury® app. Having essential engine data on the control bar allows the user to focus on what matters. Users no longer must have the Mercury® app open to see RPMs
  • Select Engine data from the bottom of the Mercury control bar.

Add the Mercury® app to splits

  • It is now possible to add one instance of the Mercury app to a split page with an instrument bar.

Fuel App

Users can now view and reset Trip / Seasonal fuel used from within the Fuel app.

Previously, users could see their Trip / Seasonal fuel within the instrument bar, instrument page, or device list, but there was no way to reset these values.

Now that user can easily reset the values, they can use them to plan their trips and monitor total fuel used across multiple days/refuels.

Hardware dependencies

  • Navico® Fuel Data Manager or Fuel Flow Sensor.

LENCO™ Control Bar

New Control bar for Lenco™ Pro Control trim tab system. Users can see the position of the trim tabs and control the trim tab system directly from the MFD.

Hardware dependencies

  • Lenco™ Pro Control Auto or Lenco™ Pro Control trim tab system.

Radar

Radar Antenna Offset

  • Radar antenna offset is a new option in the dockside setup. Radar antenna offset allows alignment of Radars on the vessel so that AIS targets and watched radar targets align better for target association.

Filter tracked radar targets by source

  • Added the ability to filter radar targets to display only radar targets from the current radar instance, e.g, Halo A, or to show targets from all radar instances on the network, eg, Halo A & Halo B. Previously tracked targets from all radars were displayed on all radar PPIs.
  • Now, users have the option to not display the targets on a second range, which allows for a less cluttered screen

Auto Pinning of target databoxes control

  • There is now a setting in the vessels and targets menu to choose if you want target data boxes pinned on the screen.
  • When the data boxes are auto-pinned, they will be displayed as soon as a target is tracked. There is now an option to pin ‘All targets’, ‘Watched * and dangerous’, ‘Watched’*, or none ‘Off’.

Note: * refers to manually selected watched targets

Ability to watch AIS targets added

  • It is now possible to manually watch and track a radar target under an AIS target. This allows the user to watch the radar target. If the targets are deemed to be the same target, then target association combines the targets into one. This can mean faster updates for AIS targets.

The dangerous target alert level is now configurable

  • This setting changes the behavior of the dangerous target alert. It is now possible to choose the severity of a dangerous target alert.

Changes to the Radar settings menu

  • There is now an advanced setting in the radar settings menu. This removes the settings that are controlled by radar modes from the main menu. When in a mode such as Harbor, Offshore, Weather or Bird, most of these settings are greyed out and unavailable. They can, however, be fully adjusted when in Custom mode.
  • These menus that are controlled by preset radar modes are only used in Custom mode. Removing them to an advanced menu simplifies the radar settings menu, reducing clutter and allowing easier menu navigation.

Power off all radars from the swipe-down menu

  • There is now a quick way to set all transmitting radar instances to standby on the Power menu.
  • This is a quick and easy way to set all radars to standby when approaching a dock or when finished with the radar.

Instruments

Ability to hide unwanted Instrument pages

  • A user now can show or hide one or more dashboards.
  • Only required dashboards are shown, meaning users don’t need to scroll through unwanted dashboards to get to the required data.

New EV Page

  • New dashboard to show electric battery and motor information that is simple and easy to read.

New Widgets: Tide, % Trim tab

  • Trim percentage widget: There is now a new trim tab instrument widget, which will graphically show the position of trim tabs as a percentage.
  • Tide Widget: There is a new instrument tide widget, which shows tide information either at the boat’s location or at other chosen tide stations.

Page editing improvements

  • Duplicate page, copy widget, Snap to grid toggle, control arrows for accurate moving and resizing, or gauges, Transparency can be added to a digital gauge.

Create labels

  • Text labels can now be added to a page. The labels can be resized, and the color can be changed.

Autopilot

Transition speed status added

  • There is now a speed mode indicator to show if the autopilot is operating in high or low speed mode.

Local magnetic field status added

  • Systems with a compatible magnetic compass, such as Preision-9, now have an Auto-calibration control.
  • Local field and Field angle are now shown on the Configure compass page.

Spiral turn pattern interface improvement

  • An improvement has been made to the Spiral Autopilot turn patterns.
  • Using colors, it is now clearer what each of the control’s changes.

Home page

Home Page split page creation improvements.

  • Instrument bar is now added by default to new split-screen layouts (with an option to exclude).
  • Users can now edit the size of their splits from within the split creation page rather than having to create the split and then change the size via the Power Menu.
  • HTML5 apps can now be added to splits as well as pinned as the startup app.

Other fixes and improvements

  • Stop or continue navigation reaching the destination waypoint. Users now have the option to either stop navigation or continue navigating when arriving at the destination waypoint.
    1. Stop navigation. The plotter ceases navigating. If an autopilot is in NAV mode, it will revert to heading hold and keep on the last heading.
    2. Selecting Continue, the plotter will continue navigating back to the destination waypoint. If the autopilot is engaged, it will continue to steer the boat to the destination waypoint. Navigation will need to be manually stopped by selecting the NAV on the quick access menu and Stop navigation.
  • Touch lock improvement. Displays mounted in the elements could show false touch events caused by rain or spray. There has always been a feature to disable the touch screen to prevent this.
  • Some users reported that it is too easy for a short tap on the power button to remove the touch lock, resulting in unwanted touch events. It now requires a long press on the Power button to remove the touch lock.
  • NSS4 keypad control of on-screen keyboard. The onscreen keyboard can now be controlled by the NSS4 keypad.
  • Accounts and C-MAP®C-MAP Downloaded charts and updates are tied to a user’s Simrad®/C-MAP account. Now when a user logs out of their account and logs in with another account and they have charts downloaded to their Internal storage of the MFD there is now a warning that charts that the downloaded charts will be removed. Note: If cartography data is on an SD card, it will not be removed, and the user will not see this warning.
