New WECDIS compliant with new IMO Standards

Raytheon Anschütz, a business of Raytheon Technology, successfully completed type approval for the new Naval ECDIS NX, making it ready for delivery to newbuild and refit projects. The approval included the new Bridge Alert Management Standard according to the International Maritime Organization resolution IMO.302(87) and related International Electrotechnical Commission standards.

Naval ECDIS NX is designed as a modular WECDIS, or warship electronic chart display and information system for the coast guard and patrol boats, naval surface combatants, and submarines. It is based on a proven, IMO-compliant ECDIS and enhanced with modular naval and military features according to NATO Standardization Agreement 4564 Ed. 3 for enhanced tactical awareness and operation.

“Naval ECDIS NX completes our portfolio of key navigation systems for commercial and naval ships,” said Björn Schröder, product manager for WECDIS at Raytheon Anschütz. “Our applications are standardized and continuously kept in compliance with IMO standards, share an off-the-shelf system architecture, and can be customized to ship and mission by use of software and hardware modules.”

Naval ECDIS NX enables adding naval and military features as required by the individual customer or mission. Among the new overlays and features are:

  • Additional military layer (such as AML) and further chart support
  • Navigational and tactical overlays, including sensors, effectors, and military grid systems
  • Navigation aids for special missions, including target intercept and search and rescue
  • Water space management, including moving haven and disposition
  • Antisubmarine warfare

The Naval ECDIS NX software application’s modern, clearly structured user interface is designed to support intuitive interaction patterns and to make it easy to operate and train. It continuously maintains and adapts to new International Maritime Organization standards to offer customers ongoing compliance with ECDIS standards, supported by advanced configuration management. Naval ECDIS NX seamlessly integrated into Raytheon Anschütz’s Warship Integrated Navigation and Bridge System, which is state of the art for NATO warships.
