The new JMC DBS-1000 searchlight sonar uses a powerful 1,5 kW wide band transducer optimised for the frequencies from 130 to 210 kHz. Operating frequency can be selected in 100 Hz steps, to match the fishing method, scanning depth and species targeted. The flexible and easy selection of frequencies enables the fishing vessel to operate at a different frequency than those of surrounding vessels minimising or even eliminating interference. Providing a range of display modes (sonar, off-centre, bottom scan, echo sounder) in 8/16 colours the new sonar allows for efficient searching while in fishing operations.
The sonic beam has a width between 8 to 12 degrees, depending on selected frequency and it’s centre can be adjusted in 1-degree increments. It can be tilted between +5 to -90 degrees from the sea surface and it’s horizontal bearing can also be adjusted freely up to 360 degrees. When pointing straight down, the beam will give a high definition picture of the sea floor. As the beam moves from the perpendicular to the horizontal, bottom definition reduces and fish detection improves. The built-in transducer stabiliser improves detection and tracking by keeping the sonic beam on target under difficult and demanding weather conditions. For added safety the automatic soundome retraction can be user programmed for activation at a preset speed in order to avoid grounding the soundome in shallow waters.
The standard sonar delivery consists of a compact control unit, dedicated keyboard and hoist unit with high performance stabilised transducer. Using a JMC MM-17C, 17” Marine Monitor, is recommended for optimal performance. Nevertheless any type of display can be used, as long as it supports XGA resolution (1024X768) with VGA input. The modular construction of the system contributes to flexible installation layout in smaller vessels. While the use of a standard 6” sonar trunk and flange allow for easy replacement of older analog sonars. With the icon based keyboard operation full control of the searchlight sonar is made easy. The one-touch menu keys are conveniently backlit and are highlighted with the green colour once activated, making operation extremely easy in low light conditions. Moreover the simple Greek menu, as in all JMC sonars, is providing an intuitive and user-friendly interface.
