OLEX releases version 17.1

Norwegian based OLEX AS, the manufacturer of complete systems for navigation, plotting, 3D seafloor and fish mapping, is pleased to announce that the latest software version OLEX 17.1 was released and is available as a free download or through your local OLEX dealer for an upgrade of existing systems.

With this latest release, the OLEX LT – Office version can use the GRIB module to download and use free weather data files. It should be noted that all OLEX systems with GRIB module can improve planning of fishery operations by using free downloadable data files for 7-days forecast. These free GRIB data files include regional 7-day forecasts for the ocean surface which are generated daily at 0015, 0615, 1215 and 1815 GMT. They are based on National Weather Service (NOAA) weather models and are optimized for low bandwidth wireless connections.

Furthermore, the improvements introduced with this latest software version allow:

• Handling of files larger than 2GB.
• URL interval not smaller than one hour.
• URL fetching now includes “user agent”.

Note: Passive systems, such as OLEX LT – Office version, can use GRIB but cannot report gear to BarentsWatch.

Moreover, there were some bug fixes related to:

• Removal of spurious red flash when mouse is along lower edge.
• Missing removal of hentfiler/althentet*.
• Less radical clock management.

After years of R&D and testing, OLEX AS has developed and keeps refining the most comprehensive seafloor topography mapping system available on the market. OLEX systems are based on Linux and are considered to be the most stable systems of their kind available on the commercial market. Speed, flexibility, and user-friendliness are important keywords to explain their success.

OLEX systems can use official and unofficial vector charts, in S57, shape and SOSI format, from Hydrographic Offices and commercial vendors. The navigation charts are displayed alongside the collected seabed data and the chart visualization software will always strive to achieve a clear and informative chart image and prevent the screen from filling up with unnecessary information, by displaying only information relevant to the current zoom scale. Zooming and chart display are fast, easy and seamless.
