Simrad announced the release of updated software version 1.1.1 for the Simrad R5000 Radar Systems adding several new features. This new software release is valid for all existing R5000 radar systems as well as new installations. Some of the new features are:
Two new IEC 61162-1 sentences WPL and RTE are now accepted by R5000 to receive, process, and present the active route from ECDIS or EPFS.
The messages must be received by serial line on port Port 4 or Ethernet with IEC61162-450 (LWE) protocol.
Route data is accepted only from the same source as the position data.
Sentence descriptions:
WPL – Waypoint location message
Latitude and Longitude of specified waypoint
Every waypoint has 30 seconds life, if not refreshed it will be erased from R5000 internal database and erased from the screen.
A maximum number of accepted waypoints is 32, i.e. R5000 will store up to 32 different active waypoints identifiers.
RTE – Routes message
Waypoint identifiers are listed in order with starting waypoint first, for the identified route.
Both modes of route transmission are accepted:
The route will be displayed if the RTE waypoints list is composed of at least 2 active waypoints.
Waypoints and routes leg lines presentation are disabled in case of EPFS or Heading failure.
The received list of waypoints of the route can be consulted by viewing the menu -> route data page:
The R5000 is now able to present the BCR and BCT of the selected TT or AIS target.
The bow crossing point is when the other vessel is dead ahead (or behind) its own vessel.
The BCR is the distance forward from the bow of the own vessel to the position where the target will cross the own vessel course. Negative BCR indicates the other vessel will cross behind the bow (but not necessarily behind our vessel).
The BCT is the time until that event occurs.
If the target has passed the crossing point, both BCR and BCT will show “PAST”.
Simrad R5000 are state-of-the-art Radar Systems, available in a range of configurations to meet the requirements for an IMO type-approved 12/25kW X-Band or 30kW S-Band radar system aboard CAT 1(H) and CAT 2(H) SOLAS vessels. Their modular design makes it easy to create any combination of a single or multi-radar system for commercial vessels of any size and type. Complying with all carriage requirements they are also tested for compliance with the latest bridge alert management (BAM) mandatory standards according to IMO Res.MSC.302(87).
The modern UI and ergonomic keypad with trackball controls of the R5000-series ensure ease of operation for safe navigation. Their enhanced radar performance, combined with the latest UI, improves situational awareness and collision avoidance for hard to detect targets under demanding conditions.
