The new software version 24.12 of Simrad TV80 which was recently released, including all the latest improvements, adds value to all Simrad Fishing Gear Monitoring Systems. It is recommended that all users have their TV80 Processor Unit’s software updated to this latest version. The complete picture, while in fishing operations, is presented by maximizing the combined performance of previous and current sensors’ Families. Software update v.24.12 also solves a number of software bugs that have been reported by users, or detected during our own software development. New functionality in the TV80 gear monitoring software is only available with the following licensing options:
Full Trawl and Purse Seine
Full Trawl and Purse Seine with Positioning License
New functionality:
Smoothing Filter is available to remove noise and fast variations caused by the acoustic transmissions through the water.
Noise Reduction filter reduces or eliminates unwanted background noise. This filter makes it easier to detect and interpret the actual echoes.
The TV80 software now shows the current Color Palette beside the echogram.
The TV80 software now supports two Color Scales for echograms: 32 or 64 colors. The 32-colour scale provides a classic view, ensuring compatibility with previous versions of TV80. The 64-colour scale offers greater precision by increasing the number of color variations per signal strength.
A different Display Gain scale is used to adjust echo intensity in echogram presentations.
Two new parameters in PX Flow Sensor Configurator, Cell 3 and Cell 4, were added. This improves how Cell 2 measures range volume and includes the Quality parameter to make readings more reliable.
The Offsets dialog box may be used to adjust Flow measurement deviations related to depth, height, and flow measurements. These offsets help ensure more accurate sensor readings.
The @IITPC NMEA sentence is now supported. This represents the trawl position in Cartesian coordinates. The system uses three spatial axes: X (horizontal), Y (vertical), and Z (depth). This sentence allows the TV80 software to interface with the ES80 Echosounder software, where ES80 uses it to display a trawl marker on the echogram.
Improvements:
Improved data integrity checks when updating XML configuration files.
More effective detection of sensor failures in the PX Sensor Configurator.
GPS NMEA input is no longer required for sentences without GPS data.
PXPos Spread sensors can be added to the port door and remote starboard door in triple trawl gear setups.
PX Flow values are now available in Chart Gauge measurements.
Startup storage checks prevent critically low disk space during recording, with warnings displayed in GB instead of percentages. If space is too low, recording stops automatically.
The gain function in the Active menu now uses “Display Gain” instead of an icon.
Enhanced sensor bearing estimation improves accuracy, especially when turning.
More effective data filtering reduces sporadic false measurements.
Bug fixes:
The inspection point on the left side of the port icon in the block diagram did not change to red when course gyro or GPS input stopped, making it unclear that NMEA sentences were missing.
The NMEA Output was sometimes missing when hovering over the inspection point on the left side of the port icon in the block diagram.
When the transceiver failed to decode a slant range from TP90 port transducer data, it did not calculate positioning data. Now, if TP90 starboard transducer input provides a slant range, the system correctly uses it for positioning.
An old heading replaced the correct one when the system failed to detect the interrogation reply pulse on the TP90 port transducer input.
In certain situations, an indexing error interrupted trawl positioning.
Plus, various sensor interfacing bugs, especially relating to previous generations of Sensors (PI, etc) and Receivers (PI50, PI60) and ITI Transceivers
The Simrad TV80 Fishing Gear Monitoring software implements a new licensing system. The TV80 system needs a software license to receive data from catch monitoring sensors. There are different types of licenses available depending on your working scenario or operational specific needs. Each software license “unlocks” a set of functionalities. The Software License dialog box is added to the Setup menu for this purpose. In all cases a valid Hardware ID number is mandatory to obtain a software license. So, these dedicated procedures need to be observed and one should contact their local support before updating a TV80. Furthermore, the TV80 system software cannot be moved from one processor to another unless a new license is requested/issued/installed.
The TV80 software has been designed/optimized for Microsoft® Windows® 10. Other/older operating systems are not supported. The end-user documentation has been updated with this release. The current TV80 Reference Manual is included as context sensitive on-line help with the TV80 software media (USB flash drive).
Simrad’s Fishing Gear Monitoring systems can be used with a variety of current and previous generations’ sensors and receivers. All combinations of ITI, PI, PX and PxPos sensor platforms are compatible with the latest TV80. All these sensors can be placed on a trawl or purse seine to monitor key parameters. The design of each Simrad sensor is extremely rugged, and they are all built to withstand the daily beating and battering they are subjected to on an operating trawl or purse seine.
