Kaleidescape introduced Terra Prime 96TB & 72TB

Today Kaleidescape announced the Terra Prime 96TB movie server, our largest movie server to date, as well as a Terra Prime 72TB movie server, replacing the Terra Prime 88TB offering.

These latest Terra Prime Servers feature an all-new board design, with faster processing power and faster network – the only dedicated movie servers with 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet. The new servers are available with enterprise-class hard disk drives, the same drives chosen by data centers for performance and reliability.

Terra Prime is our next-generation high-capacity movie server. It can download a Kaleidescape high-bitrate 4K movie in as little as 8 minutes and serves up to 5 simultaneous playback zones (compact) or up to 10 simultaneous playback zones (full size). Their approximate storage capacity, for uncompressed movies with high bitrate 4K HDR video and immersive audio, are as follows:

Along with the Terra Prime HDD movie server offerings, Kaleidescape also has Terra Prime Solid-State (SSD) models, available in 31TB and 8TB. These are the fastest and quietest movie servers available, ideal for marine and state-of-the-art installations. A Kaleidescape high bitrate 4K movie can be downloaded in as little as 4 minutes. Furthermore, up to 25 simultaneous playback zones may be served by the Terra Prime SSD Servers.

Today streaming services are very popular, and their users enjoy the instant search and access which they provide. The leading streaming services encode 4K video at an average of around 8 Mbps, with a minimum recommended available speed of 15 Mbps. Making sure that the users can keep watching is a priority, so a lower quality may be the result of resolution adjusted to the available internet connection speed.
