Simrad HALO R5000 software updates

Simrad® Marine Electronics, a leader in marine electronics and navigation, today announced the release of software version 1.3.3 for the Simrad R5000 Radar Processors plus software version 9.1.3.47 for the Simrad HALO R5000 solid state X-band Transceivers.

The radar processors’ update (R5000-1.3.3-69.2.16-Standard-1) addresses mainly AIS-related issues which were identified in previous version 1.3.2 and improves overall system reliability, such as:

  • Resolved an issue where the “AIS Capacity Full” alert could be triggered incorrectly. Capacity calculations now correctly consider only AIS targets that remain visible after the application of active filters including class, range, and speed filters.
  • Fixed an AIS engine issue that could result in certain AIS position messages being discarded. In some cases, this caused targets to remain in an “Acquiring” state without position, range, or bearing information.
  • Corrected a condition where AIS capacity alerts could incorrectly reappear as “Rectified” following an AIS service restart.

The radar transceivers’ update (RadarApp-PRHOG3-9.1.3.47) significantly improves the detection of small targets, particularly buoys at short and medium ranges; all the while reducing false alarms and enhancing system stability. Some of the key improvements include:

  • enhanced scan-to-scan correlation algorithms
  • refined bearing sensor filtering
  • corrected gateware logic

Simrad HALO R5000 radar transceivers use solid-state pulse compression technology delivering enhanced situational awareness, lower cost of ownership, and total flexibility of installation. With 130W of pulse compression power, HALO R5000 can see as far as 48NM away. Their Intelligent Target Tracking allows monitoring thousands of targets, with up to 100 on-screen at any one time. The modular design makes it easy to create stand-alone or multi-display navigation systems for commercial vessels of any size and type. While the modern user interface and ergonomic keypad with trackball controls ensure ease of operation for safe navigation under demanding conditions.

Simrad R5000 radar systems with HALO Transceivers are available in a range of configurations to meet the requirements for IMO type-approved X-Band radars aboard CAT 1(H) and CAT 2(H) SOLAS vessels, including high speed craft (HSC). Some of their key features are:

  • Certified as fully IMO/SOLAS compliant
  • Solid-state 130W pulse compression X-band scanners
  • Range up to 48 nautical miles
  • Lightweight 4-foot and 6-foot array options
  • Selectable array rotation speed, from 22/44 rotations per minute
  • Built-in Advanced Radar Performance Monitor
  • Instantaneous tracking up to 100 radar targets and 300 AIS targets
  • Advanced inter-switch of multiple stations as master, slave or clone
  • High-grade gearbox for wind speeds up to 100 knots
  • Adjustable array park angle on standby plus antenna park hold
  • Power supply 24VDC or 230VAC
