SEA.AI (formerly known as OSCAR) just announced the release of a new Sailing Software Update V8.0 with smarter detection, allowing users to trust every alarm and see more of what’s ahead. This brings a smarter color camera AI, a wider usable camera view, and a cleaner, more intuitive interface.
The SEA.AI Sailing Software Update V8.0 has been rolled out for its Offshore and Competition collision prevention systems, used across the sailing world, from family cruising to short-handed offshore racing. For sailors, the payoff is straightforward: fewer false alarms to second-guess, a wider view of what is ahead, and a new app that finally feels the same across every SEA.AI system. So, this SEA.AI sailing software release is built around three priorities:
A smarter color camera AI model
A wider usable camera view
A redesigned interface bringing the app in line with the rest of the SEA.AI product family.
What’s new in SEA.AI Sailing Software Update v8.0
Improved color camera AI model. The most significant change in this release is a new AI model for the color camera sensor. It improves detection performance and reduces false positives, which means fewer nuisance alerts pulling your attention away from the helm and more confidence that when the system does raise an alarm, it is worth acting on. For crews standing watch on long offshore legs, that translates directly into less alarm fatigue and more trust in the system during the hours that matter most.
Camera cropping. The camera view is now cropped to better fit the app screen, giving you a larger, clearer image of what is directly ahead, exactly where your attention is already focused. You are not trading awareness for that clarity: objects outside the visible area are still analyzed by the AI and flagged with an arrow pointing in their direction, so you keep full situational awareness even beyond what is on screen.
New design layout. The app’s design has been updated to match the look and feel of other SEA.AI products, including SEA.AI Competition and SEA.AI Offshore hardware interfaces. If you already know one SEA.AI system, you already know this one: the more intuitive, more dynamic interface means less time relearning menus and more time watching the water.
Updated map. a view aimed at giving users a clearer, steadier context on your surroundings; where you are and what you are looking at.
Native mobile apps. The SEA.AI app is now available for Android and iOS, so you can check in on your system from whichever device is closest to hand.
New macOS and Windows compatibility. The app now runs on desktop platforms as well as mobile, useful for planning and reviewing at the nav station.
Light theme, adjustable display scale, and temporary alarm mute durations. A new Light theme joins the existing Dark and Night themes, so the display stays easy on the eyes in bright daylight, not just after dark. Now your display that adapts to your conditions and your preferences, not the other way around.
Display scale. Choose between Compact, Default, and Large interface sizes to match your screen and your eyesight. Set the scale of the user interface to suit your visibility and comfort needs. Helpful for high-resolution displays or varied viewing distances. Note: This won’t affect camera views or detection, only the size of buttons, text, and panels on screen.
Temporary mute duration. Alarms can now be muted for 30, 60, or 120 minutes at a time. This proves handy when you need a quiet stretch without turning alerts off for the whole watch.
SEA.AI is a pioneer in the field of machine vision for marine applications. The Watchkeeper, Competition & Sentry systems combine optical and thermal sensors with artificial intelligence for enhanced comfort and safety at sea. While the Brain add-on system pursues the promise of vaster surface vision capabilities for third-party thermal cameras. SEA.AI systems detect floating objects early, using thermal and optical cameras to catch even objects that escape conventional systems such as Radar or AIS: unsignalled craft, floating obstacles, containers, buoys, inflatables, kayaks and persons overboard.
This latest software update for SEA.AI Offshore & Competition systems, not only enhances the systems’ detection capabilities, but also offers a more user-friendly experience. As maritime security remains a persistent concern in today’s world, SEA.AI continues to lead the way with innovative solutions that supports crew members and maritime professionals to safeguard their vessels effectively. So, our users may stay safe, stay aware, and navigate with confidence—powered by SEA.AI.
